Privacy pods and booths

Privacy is two separate problems and most people only buy for one of them. Whether you can be overheard is acoustics. Whether you can be watched, or your screen read, or your distress observed by the whole floor, is glass. A pod that solves the first and ignores the second still gets avoided for the conversations that needed it most.

Six models, one configurator

Every FocusPod has a glass front and rear, built-in wheels and adjustable levelling feet.

Acoustic privacy and visual privacy are separate purchases

Acoustic privacy is the measured one. FocusPod is laboratory tested at greater than 29 dB speech level reduction under ISO 23351-1, measured on the assembled pod with ventilation running, which in a normal office puts speech inside below the room's own noise floor. That is what stops the conversation being followed.

Visual privacy is a specification choice and it is the one that gets missed. A fully glazed pod in the middle of a floor is a fishbowl. For an HR conversation, a clinical call, a disciplinary, a performance review or anything a person might be upset in, being seen is the exposure that stops people using it.

Both are solvable on the same shell. Switchable privacy glass goes from clear to frosted at the touch of a button, on the front glass or on front and rear. Applied frosting or a printed wrap does the same job permanently and for less. Which is right depends on whether the pod has one use or many.

The conversations people actually need it for

Confidential is not one requirement. A return-to-work meeting, a payroll query, a safeguarding call, a lawyer taking instructions and a clinician running a telehealth appointment all have different thresholds, and the practical test is the same in each case: could someone outside follow the words, and can they see who is inside and what is on the screen.

The screen is the one that surprises people. A glass rear wall with a monitor facing it puts client data, patient records or candidate details in view of whoever walks past. Orientation of the furniture inside the pod solves this for free if it is considered before the pod is placed, and not at all if it is considered afterwards.

An occupancy indicator is the small thing that makes the rest work, because it stops the door being opened mid-sentence.

Where to put a privacy pod

Against a wall rather than in open floor, so there is one less side to be seen from. Away from the main circulation route, because a pod people have to be watched walking into will not be used for the conversations that most needed privacy. And out of the direct line of sight of the largest bank of desks.

This is the one category where the quiet corner beats the prominent position, which is the reverse of the advice for call booths.

What is included as standard

Every FocusPod arrives with laminated glass front and rear, layered acoustic insulation, adjustable ventilation, dimmable LED lighting with adjustable colour temperature, power and an occupancy light. Speech level reduction is laboratory tested at greater than 29 dB under ISO 23351-1, the international standard written specifically for pods. Every pod is covered by our five-year structural and electrical warranty.

There is no separate charge for the black or white exterior or for the standard interior palette. Other exterior colours use the displayed upgrade price, and a custom interior colour is priced per pod. All of it is listed separately as you build, so nothing arrives as a surprise on your order.

See it properly before you decide

Take a look inside. The film below walks through the Solo, the most compact model in the range, and the 3D configurator lets you turn any model around, change the finishes and try the furniture layouts. If you would rather be walked through it, we will do a live video walkthrough of the pod you are considering and answer questions as we go.

Common questions

Can people see in?

By default, yes, it is glazed. Switchable privacy glass, applied frosting or a printed wrap all solve it, on the front glass or front and rear. Decide this before you order rather than after, because it changes which conversations the pod gets used for.

Is it private enough for HR or clinical conversations?

Acoustically, speech inside sits below the room's own noise floor in a normal office, tested at greater than 29 dB reduction under ISO 23351-1. Visually, specify the glass treatment and think about which way the screen faces before the pod is placed.

Will someone open the door mid-conversation?

An occupancy indicator is standard, which is the small detail that makes the rest of it usable.

Does it need electrical work?

No. It plugs into a standard socket and is not fixed to the building.

How long does delivery take?

Pods are made to the configuration you approve. Indicative lead time is around four weeks from a confirmed order, with delivery and installation scheduled on top, and your order summary confirms the window for your address.

Can I see one before I order?

Yes. Turn any model around in the 3D configurator, watch the product films, and if you would like to be walked through it, we will do a live video walkthrough of the pod you are considering. Send us the room dimensions beforehand and we will talk through how it fits.

Are the front and rear both glass?

Yes. Every FocusPod has glass at both the front and rear. Standard glass is clear. Optional PDLC privacy glass can be selected for the front only or for both the front and rear.

Can I move the pod once it is installed?

Yes. Every FocusPod has built-in wheels and adjustable levelling feet. Raise the feet to move the pod on its wheels, then lower and adjust them to level the pod in its new position.
